This is where the construction of all the walls took place. I added a lip around a board to keep everything from rolling off. I can prop it up on my desk at an angle, take it into the living room, or put it up on a shelf out of the way of little hands in the house and everything that I need stays where I need it.

2/15-2/18/02 and beyond

Shown in the picture is all the strip wood for the walls and roof of the shed. It was stained by leaving in a mixture of alcohol, ink and paint for 12-24 hours.

The walls are built first with studs. I put the template under a piece of Plexiglas then work on top. If the wood glue sticks it comes right off the Plexiglas - it only glues the wood together. Because there is the thickness of the Plexiglas you have to make sure you are looking straight down when measuring against the template. If you look at a slight angle things will not line up.

This view shows the siding being added board by board. The top will be trimmed and windows cut out later.

Here is the front wall finished. Notice all the variation in color in each piece of strip wood. The effect comes from leaving some pieces in the stain longer than others.

2/16/02

The first two walls are done! I still have to add the windows and trim on the outside.

2/16/02

In this view you can see the bracing on the inside.

2/16/02

All the walls are built! Placing them carefully onto the footprint diagram I was able to get them to stand together without falling - no one bump the table!

2/18/02

I decided to try handlaying track. For the module I really like it but I don't know if I want to do a whole layout!
After a short break, I'm coming back to this project. Completing Greeley's Place in a short time helped get me excited about moving forward with this project.
I finally got the windows in. I don't know why but I had a mental block against them.

7/7/02

There's lots of details in these windows.

Brittany, my two and half year-old, said, "Can I watch you?" Then when she saw this wall said, "That's really good. I like that, Dad."

She's always surprising me with her level of comprehension and verbal skills.

Brittany wants to help all the time now. Here she is "roughing up" the floor to make it look more worn like it was really used.
